In 1998 I was driving to work in my mother’s silver Mitsubishi Eclipse. Passing the cemetery where my grandmother is buried, I dozed off at the wheel. I opened my eyes just in time to see the accident that would end my life.
I plowed into the car in front of me at 45 mph with no braking. The next thing I knew I was parked on the side of the road. Me and my mom’s ride both unharmed and in one piece. The car I ran into was stopped in the road just a few feet ahead of me.
The driver of the other car walked around to the back of his vehicle. I was still paralyzed with fear or shock, hands gripping the wheel. I watched his flush white face examine his car and the road around us…
